Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Mighty K9: The Carrier, the Calories and the Cautions
Extra virgin olive oil is the first and largest ingredient in Mighty K9. It dissolves the ESS60 and makes up nearly all of each 2 mL serving, which is why the label shows crude fat at 100% (min) and 16.2 kcal per serving. It adds fat and calories, not proven joint support, and it is not fish oil.

The carrier
Why is olive oil the main ingredient in Mighty K9?
Olive oil is the carrier. C60, sold here as ESS60, will not dissolve in water but does dissolve in oil, so the oil holds it.
The label lists ingredients by weight, and extra virgin olive oil comes first (AAFCO, n.d. (reading labels)). The ESS60 is only 1.6 mg in a 2 mL serving, and the flavoring is a small share too. Nearly every drop in the dropper is olive oil.
Olive oil is also the oil used in the C60 rat and mouse studies. In the rat study, plain olive oil was its own test group, and those rats lived a little longer than the water group (Baati et al., 2012). That was 6 rats per group, so it proves little about either oil or C60.

Calories
How many calories does the olive oil in Mighty K9 add?
Each 2 mL serving adds 16.2 calories, almost all from the olive oil. The label states it as 8,100 kcal ME/kg; 16.2 kcal ME per 2 mL serving (calculated).
At about 9 calories per gram of fat, that is roughly 1.8 g of fat per serving (our arithmetic). It sounds tiny. For a small dog, it is a real share of the day.
Vets suggest keeping treats and extras to 10% of daily calories or less (Tufts Your Dog, n.d.). A daily oil topper counts toward that. So do dental chews, training treats and table scraps.
Weight
Can olive oil make a dog gain weight?
It can, if the calories are added on top of a full diet day after day. One serving a day is small, but small extras add up over months.
Weight matters a lot for joints. In a 2022 survey, vets classed 59% of U.S. dogs as overweight or obese (APOP, 2022). In a lifelong Labrador study, dogs fed about 25% less lived a median of 13 years against 11.2, and fewer had hip arthritis by age 10 (Kealy et al., 2002) (Penn Today, 2002).
- Ask your vet for a body condition score at the next visit (WSAVA, 2011 (ongoing)).
- If your dog is on a weight-loss plan, ask how to fit 16.2 calories into it.
- Trim a few kibble pieces or one treat a day to make room for the oil.

Pancreatitis
Is olive oil safe for dogs with pancreatitis?
Ask your veterinarian before giving any added oil to a dog that has had pancreatitis. High-fat foods and eating the wrong thing are known risk factors, and dogs with pancreatitis usually go on low-fat diets (Steiner, Merck Veterinary Manual, 2025) (Animal Medical Center, n.d.).
A low-fat diet for these dogs is under 20 g of fat per 1,000 calories (Steiner, Merck Veterinary Manual, 2025). Mighty K9 is 100% fat by its own label. One serving will not make a diet high-fat by itself. But your vet may want every fat source counted, or none added at all.
Vomiting, belly pain, weakness or a sudden loss of appetite can mean pancreatitis. Stop the oil and call your vet the same day if you see them.
Dogs with diarrhea or a sensitive stomach may also do better starting slowly. Ask your vet whether a smaller amount for the first week makes sense.

Order nowThe wording
Is the olive oil in Mighty K9 organic?
The front of the bottle says "Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil." The ingredient list on the label panel just says "Extra Virgin Olive Oil." No organic certifier or seal appears on the label images we have.
| Where on the label | Exact wording | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Front panel | Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil | A marketing line on the front |
| Ingredient list | Extra Virgin Olive Oil | No "organic" in the formal list |
| Certifier or seal | Not shown | Who checked the organic claim is unknown |
| Country of origin | Not shown | Where the oil comes from is unknown |
The gap may be harmless. Still, a buyer who cares about organic sourcing should ask the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 who certifies the oil and where it is from. Also look for a certifier name on the physical bottle.
Compare
Is olive oil the same as fish oil for dog joints?
No. Olive oil is mostly a fat called oleic acid. It is not a meaningful source of EPA and DHA, the omega-3 fats found in fish oil.
That difference matters. Among joint supplements for dogs, omega-3 fish oil diets and supplements have the clearest evidence (Vandeweerd et al., 2012) (Barbeau-Gregoire et al., 2022). A controlled trial in dogs with osteoarthritis tested a fish-oil diet, not olive oil (Roush et al., 2010).
Mighty K9 does not replace fish oil. Ask your vet whether an omega-3 product or a joint diet suits your dog, and how much. Our omega-3 vs C60 comparison lays out both.
Olive oil is a familiar food fat, and many dogs handle small amounts well. It simply is not a joint ingredient with dog research behind it.
Bottom line
What should owners know about the olive oil?

FAQ
Olive oil for dogs: common questions
Can I give my dog olive oil every day?
Many healthy dogs handle a small daily amount, but it adds calories. One 2 mL Mighty K9 serving is 16.2 calories of fat. Count it in your dog's 10% allowance for treats and extras, and ask your vet first if your dog has had pancreatitis.
How much fat is in one serving of Mighty K9?
About 1.8 g, by our arithmetic. The label lists crude fat at 100% (min) and 16.2 calories per 2 mL serving, and fat carries about 9 calories per gram. Nearly all of that fat is extra virgin olive oil.
Is olive oil good for dog joints?
No study in dogs shows olive oil helps joints. Its job in Mighty K9 is to carry the ESS60. The joint fats with the best dog evidence are the omega-3s EPA and DHA from fish oil, which olive oil does not supply in useful amounts.
Can olive oil cause diarrhea in dogs?
Added fat can loosen stools in some dogs, especially when started suddenly. If diarrhea or vomiting starts after adding Mighty K9, stop it and call your veterinarian. Vomiting with belly pain needs a vet the same day.
Can I check that the olive oil in Mighty K9 is organic?
The front label says organic extra virgin olive oil, but the ingredient list does not repeat the word and no certifier is shown on the label images. Ask the order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 who certifies it, and check the physical bottle.
Can a dog on a low-fat diet have Mighty K9?
Only if your veterinarian agrees. Mighty K9 is pure oil, and low-fat diets for dogs with pancreatitis are planned to stay under 20 g of fat per 1,000 calories. Your vet can decide whether one serving fits the plan.
