How to read it

What do min and max mean on the Mighty K9 label?

"Min" means the product has at least that much. "Max" means it has no more than that. They are limits, not exact amounts (AAFCO, n.d. (reading labels)).

The word "crude" refers to the lab test method, not to quality. Every dog food and treat in the U.S. uses the same four lines: protein, fat, fiber and moisture.

  • Crude protein 0% (min): there is no protein to promise. Olive oil has none.
  • Crude fat 100% (min): the serving is all fat.
  • Crude fiber 0% (max): no fiber.
  • Moisture under 0.1% (max): almost no water, as you would expect from oil.

Fat

Why does Mighty K9 list 100% crude fat?

Because it is oil. Extra virgin olive oil is the first ingredient and makes up almost the whole bottle, so the fat line reads 100%.

That is not a defect. It does mean each serving is a small dose of pure fat, every day. For some dogs that matters.

Ask first if your dog has had pancreatitis

High-fat foods are a risk factor for pancreatitis, and dogs that have had it are usually kept on a low-fat diet (Steiner, Merck Veterinary Manual, 2025). Signs include vomiting, belly pain, poor appetite and weakness (Animal Medical Center, n.d.). Talk to your vet before adding any oil.

Calories

How many calories does the Mighty K9 label show?

The label shows 8,100 kcal ME per kg and 16.2 kcal ME per 2 mL serving, marked "calculated." Pet labels state calories per kilogram and per familiar unit (AAFCO, n.d. (reading labels)).

"ME" stands for metabolizable energy: the calories a dog can actually use. "Calculated" means the number comes from a formula, not a feeding trial. Both are normal on pet labels.

So is 16.2 a lot? It depends on the dog. One serving is about 7% of resting needs for a 5 kg (11 lb) dog, and 1.8% for a 30 kg (66 lb) dog. That is our arithmetic using RER = 70 x kg0.75 (Carlson, Today's Veterinary Nurse, 2023). Treats and extras should stay under 10% of the day's calories (Tufts Your Dog, n.d.). Our Mighty K9 serving size page shows the full chart.

The asterisk

What does the AAFCO footnote on Mighty K9 mean?

The asterisk next to ESS60 leads to this line: "Not recognized as an essential nutrient by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles." It means dogs have no known dietary need for ESS60.

AAFCO nutrient profiles list what dogs must get from food, such as protein, vitamins and minerals. ESS60 is not on that list, so the label flags it.

The footnote is not a warning and not a red flag. It also is not a sign of benefit. It simply tells you ESS60 is an extra, not a nutrient. What ESS60 does, if anything, is covered on our ESS60 ingredient page.

Gaps

What is missing from the Mighty K9 label?

The panel we have prints no directions, warnings, storage advice, manufacturer, lot number or country of origin. Some of that may sit elsewhere on the bottle.

When it arrives

What to check on your Mighty K9 bottle

Spend one minute with the bottle before the first dose. Compare it with the transcript above.

  1. Match the panel

Look for 1.6 mg ESS60, 16.2 kcal and the three ingredients.

  2. Find the maker

Note any manufacturer or distributor name and address.

  3. Write down the lot

Keep it with your order ID in case you need the order desk.

  4. Look for a seal

Check for the NASC Quality Seal, which requires audits and random testing (NASC, n.d. (Quality Seal)). We do not know whether the brand holds it.

For lot and CoA reference codes, see our Mighty K9 testing and quality page.

Bottom line

The Mighty K9 label in short

Our take

The panel is clear on the essentials: pure olive oil, 1.6 mg of ESS60 and 16.2 calories per 2 mL. It is thin on everything else, from directions to the maker's name. Read the actual bottle, count the calories, and keep it out of the light.

FAQ

Mighty K9 label: common questions

What is the guaranteed analysis of Mighty K9?

Per 2 mL serving, the Mighty K9 label lists crude protein 0% (min), crude fat 100% (min), crude fiber 0% (max), moisture under 0.1% (max) and ESS60 at 1.6 mg. Calorie content is 8,100 kcal ME per kg, or 16.2 kcal per serving.

Why is Mighty K9 100% fat?

Mighty K9 is an oil. Extra virgin olive oil is its first and main ingredient, so the crude fat line reads 100% (min). Protein and fiber are zero. This is normal for an oil drop, but it is why the calories count.

What does crude mean on a dog supplement label?

Crude refers to the lab method used to measure protein, fat and fiber. It says nothing about quality. Guaranteed analysis numbers are also minimums or maximums, not exact amounts, so read them as limits.

Does the Mighty K9 label have directions?

The label panel we have shows a 2 mL serving size but no printed directions. The sales FAQ says to mix it into your dog's food once daily. Check the sales-page serving guide and ask your vet for small dogs, puppies or dogs with health issues.

Who makes Mighty K9?

The label images we have do not name a manufacturer or distributor. Federal rules expect that name and place on pet food labels, so check the physical bottle. Getmightyk9 is the U.S. retail partner for Mighty K9, not the manufacturer.

What does ME mean in kcal ME/kg?

ME means metabolizable energy, the calories a dog can actually use from the food. The Mighty K9 label marks its figure as calculated, which means it comes from a standard formula rather than a feeding test. Both are common on pet labels.

Is there a lot number on Mighty K9?

The label panel images do not show one. Check the bottle and box when your order arrives, and write the lot down with your order ID. The order desk at +1 (302) 200-3480 can match an order if you have questions.
